Agenda Title:

20-055 - 1R.  An ordinance authorizing acceptance of a grant in the amount of $456,250.00 from the Missouri Department of Transportation for reimbursement of overtime for the Police Department for Impaired Driving Enforcement and Youth Alcohol Liquor Compliance Checks from October 1, 2020, to September 30, 2021; authorizing future change orders and/or time extensions for the same project and making the necessary appropriations.

The Police Department recommends accepting this ordinance.

The Missouri Department of Transportation, Office of Highway Safety will fund enforcement activities for education and enforcement projects related to traffic problems.  This grant (Project #21-154-AL-039) of $456,250.00 will fund overtime for DWI Enforcement projects and expenses for full time officers. The Police Department will have year-round Wolf Pack enforcement periods.  Enforcement will focus on areas where habitual DWI arrests have been made and where alcohol-related crashes have occurred.  It will also fund officers for Youth Alcohol Liquor Compliance Checks.  All of these projects will be conducted during the time period of October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021.

Fiscal Impact:

The City will be reimbursed up to $456,250.00 for overtime expenses while working on this project.  The full amount of $456,250.00 needs to be appropriated to the Police Department’s Operating Budget, 4550-5102-DWIENF-G.  No local match is required.
