| | | | | | | | Background:
On March 12, 2020, Mayor Eileen Weir declared a State of Emergency in the City of Independence, Missouri, due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was affirmed by the City Council on Friday, March 13, 2020, when the Council approved the declaration of a State of Emergency. After a review of the City's inventory of personal protective equipment (PPE), it was determined that we had no where near the amount actually needed to handle a pandemic. At this point in time, the Police and Fire Departments began searching for and procuring, when possible, additional PPE for our first responders. In addition, the Police Department submitted an application for funding through the US Department of Justice, requesting funds for additional PPE for first responders, plus two portable decontamination units. The grant was approved and awarded, with an effective start date of January 20, 2020, which will allow us to seek reimbursement for PPE purchased retroactive to that date, as well as purchase additional supplies to help increase our inventory for future use. |

Fiscal Impact:
The Fiscal impact is $133,415 and will be appropriated to the Police Department's Grant Account 4550-5309. No local match is required for this grant program.
