Agenda Title: 23-091 1R An ordinance amending Section 11.12.004 "Emergency Powers of the Mayor" of the Independence City Code. (Requested by Councilmember Mike Steinmeyer).


Executive Summary: If approved, this ordinance would amend Section 11.12.004 of the Independence City Code to: 1. Limit the emergency powers of the Mayor in accordance with applicable State Statutes. 2. Remove firearms, ammunition, or other weapons of any character from the lists of items that the Mayor can order to be discontinued from selling, distributing, dispensing or giving away in the event of an emergency declaration.


Previous Activity: At the September 11th, 2023 Study Session, the Independence City Council considered a request from Councilmember Mike Steinmeyer to update the Independence City Code to limit the emergency powers of the Mayor.
