| | | | | | | | Executive Summary:
The Chairman of the Independence On A Roll Working Group, Council Member John Perkins, will provide an update on the status of projects recommended for implementation in the 2018 Downtown Redevelopment Coordinating Committee Report. The presentation will focus on three areas: 24 Highway, Englewood, and the Square. |
| | | | | | | | Background:
On September 5, 2017, the City Council passed Resolution 6251 establishing the Downtown Redevelopment Coordinating Committee. The Committee was tasked with reviewing a number of prior studies for improving the greater Downtown area, reevaluating the recommendations contained in these studies in the context of the Independence For All Strategic Plan, and recommending to the Council a list of priorities and projects. "Downtown" was defined as the area bounded by Noland Road, Pacific, Winner/Lexington, and US 24 Highway. In October, 2018, the Committee presented a report to the Council which contained 48 recommendations and projects. Submission of this report completed the mission of the DRCC, which was succeeded by the Independence On A Roll Working Group. That group, which is comprised of City officials, City staff, and private citizens, serves as a "sounding board, advisory group, and advocacy group for future Downtown area initiatives". Accordingly, the Independence On A Roll Working Group is called upon to periodically update the Mayor and City Council on the status of the 48 projects recommended in the 2018 DRCC report. |
