| | | | | | | | Background:
The Municipal Services Sewer Maintenance Division budgeted for a new pressure cleaning truck to maintain the sanitary sewer collection system. This truck will replace unit #3662 purchased in 2006. The new pressure cleaning unit will be mounted on a smaller Ford F550 chassis instead of a large truck chassis. This means no expensive diesel engine to maintain, no air brakes and the smaller unit will provide more versatility, as it will be four-wheel drive. This unit is also significantly less expensive as previous pressure trucks were well over $200,000.
Unit #3662 is the oldest in the fleet and has been down for several months with a broken water pump. This will likely be an expensive repair that has been elected to not make considering the age on this unit.
The vendor providing the truck, Red Municipal Equipment, provided a quote based on Sourcewell national cooperative contract no 122017-AMI/VEC. Purchases under cooperative agreements are authorized by Section 8.06.004, Paragraph 5, of the Independence City Code, which states that when cooperative bids or contracts are used, they will first have been established pursuant to generally accepted governmental purchasing practices and the competitive bidding process.
