Development of Future Electric Source at Independence Power & Light.
Executive Summary:

Power and Light Staff will present information on the options and potential timelines to determine the proper course of action for the retirement/replacement of the existing Combustion Turbines.
Background:

This is a presentation on the Development of Future Electric Source at Independence Power and Light.

 

Prior activity relative to this matter includes:

 

Resolution 6527, recommended by the PUAB at its January 16, 2020 meeting and approved by the City Council on January 21, 2020.

 

The PUAB approved the following recommendation at the November 19, 2020 meeting: 

 

Per Independence Missouri City Charter, Section 3.16.9, the PUAB is recommending the necessary action be taken to determine the most cost effective and reliable source of energy for the rate payers of IPL in the future.  This may include discontinuing the current Combustion Turbine Operations and begin seeking out base load electric solution for our energy needs within the constraints of SPP regulations.

Fiscal Impact is unknown at this time.  To be determined based on findings and ultimate recommendation.
