Background:
In May, 2019, the City Council adopted by Resolution an Economic Development Policy for the City of Independence as a means to promote community prosperity through a thoughtful use of incentives in a manner both attractive to developers and fair to taxing jurisdictions. The Policy was developed with the input of many community partners, including the School Districts, other taxing authorities, the EDC and Chamber. It serves as a valuable tool for the development process. In November 2020, the Chamber Housing Subcommittee approached the Council to ask that a Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority be created to combat blight and foster quality in-fill residential redevelopment. This proposed Resolution updates the Economic Development Policy by adding a section on LCRA. |
