Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club LLC, in the amount of $54,500.00 for one advertising sponsorship and one promotional event for the Tourism Division for the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.

The City of Independence for several years has partnered with the Kansas City Royals who have provided promotional advertisements. The purpose of this expenditure is to receive the following promotional services:

Two separate agreements have been created for the sponsorships. The first sponsorship is for (162) :30 second spots on Royals Radio Network; PA/video exposure on CrownVision during pregame and in-game portion prior to every other Royals home game; and a Suite Night during one regular season game for $44,500. The second sponsorship is for Independence Tourism Day ‘at the K’ on July 4, 2021. The sponsorship would provide four in-game PA announcements as game title sponsor, mutually agreed upon pre-game presentation, mutually agreed upon pre-game VIP experience (i.e., batting practice visit), on-site booth space for gameday activation for $10,000. Total expended is $54,500.00.

This project is a budgeted item in the Parks Department’s FY20-21 Tourism Divisions sales and services cost center.

Fiscal Impact. The fiscal impact to the City is $54,500.00. Funding is included in the fiscal year 2020/21 adopted budget, page, account number E (6064 –5205) for Advertising expenditures.
