The purpose of the presentation is to provide the City Council with additional information regarding the proposed ordinance regulating the practice of Conversion Therapy. |

The City Council previously asked the Human Relations Commission to make a recommendation on the regulation of Conversion Therapy. The HRC accordingly made a recommendation to support such an ordinance. The first reading of the proposed ordinance was on July 5, 2021, with the second reading scheduled for July 19, 2021. |

As requested by the City Council, the Human Relations Commission considered the need for an ordinance regulating the practice of Conversion Therapy at their June 28, 2021 meeting. They determined it to be a discredited practice not supported by medical authority. They recommended an ordinance similar to that in force in the City of Kansas City, which restricts the practice for a fee of Conversion Therapy for minors. |
