City Management and FOP Leadership have been meeting for the past several weeks to develop strategies relative to filling sworn personnel vacancies as well as retention of current sworn personnel.
As of August 26, 2021, IPD has 31 vacancies and 21 Police Officers in training. Of the 230 budgeted positions, 178 Police Officers are available for assignment.
As part of efforts to retain existing personnel, a retention program was developed which provides one-time payments to all sworn personnel that meet the program requirements.
Program features include:
- $8,000 payments to all active Police Officers, Master Police Officers, and Sergeants without two or more 12+ hour suspensions in the previous 36 months.
- As a condition of accepting the payment, employees will enter into an agreement with the City agreeing to meet certain conditions, including remaining with the City for 36 months or repay a portion of the payment.
