Agenda Title:

21-064 - 2R.  An ordinance authorizing the City Clerk to do all things necessary for the holding of a Primary and General City Election within the City of Independence, Missouri, in compliance with the Charter adopted by said City, as amended, and all state laws in reference thereto, and to certify to the Jackson County Board of Election Commissioners all names of candidates properly presented by petitions under the Charter and for the holding of a Primary Election on February 8, 2022, and a General Election on April 5, 2022.
Recommendations:

Approval of this ordinance to establish the election calendar for the 2022 Mayor and Councilmember At-Large election.

Missouri Election Law and Campaign Financial Disclosure Law call for the financial reports of candidates to be made to the Jackson County Board of Election Commissioners and Missouri Ethics Commission.  The City Clerk offers assistance to candidates by making a packet of forms available.  The materials provided include the required petition blanks, Charter excerpts, Disclosure Law materials, and this ordinance.  A list of names will be retained of those who file with the City Clerk the required nominating petitions, notarized Declaration of Candidacy form, and signed Notice to Candidate form.
