Agenda Title:

Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Precision Industries for a 110' Ladder Truck for the Fire Department.

Recommendations:

Council action to issue a purchase order.

Executive Summary:

Within the last 4 years the Fire Department has had to replace 2 Ladder Trucks that were over 18-20 years old. Both trucks were well beyond the recommended replacement schedule. The Fire Department in addition has a smaller 75" Aerial Ladder that was purchased in 2014. With the replacement of the older Aerial and the next one approaching replacement as a front-line apparatus, the Fire Department needs to immediately get the new aerial ordered. With current labor and parts shortages in the industry build times for the apparatus will approach 18 or more months.
Background:

The Fire Department, as part of their Capital Replacement program will be replacing and Aerial apparatus, for one that will meet its replacement time within a few years. The estimated time for the new aerial build will be 18 months or more. The existing aerial will then become a dependable reserve aerial. Aerial Apparatus life is generally 13-15 years front-line and an additional 5 years reserve.

The replacement was scheduled and budgeted for this year, however, labor cost and material cost issues have increase the price several times since budgeting. ARPA funds have been approved by council to make up the difference.

Precision Fire Apparatus is a Missouri dealer and manufacturer of the Apparatus and part of the HGAC cooperative purchasing program. Precision also has constructed the majority of Fire Apparatus for IFD and provides excellent warranty care.

 


Fiscal Impact:

The total cost to the City is $1,143,769. This is after a $25,000 discount for pre-payment of the invoice. $950,000 budgeted in the FY22 Adopted Budget Book, pg. 159

$193,769 is funded by ARP funds approved at Council 10/18/21
