Approval of this ordinance would authorize the City Manager to execute for and on behalf of the City any and all documents necessary to effectuate the transfer of City property to the National Park Service for the purpose of constructing a new Visitor Center. |

Resolution 6378 was approved by the City Council on October 15, 2018 expressing the Council’s support for conveying land to the National Park Service for the construction of a new Harry S Truman Home Visitor Center on the 1.08 acre city-owned lot located in the area bounded by Truman Road on the south, North Lynn Street on the west, East White Oak Street on the north, and the City’s transit center on the east. Since this resolution was approved this property has been replatted as Lot 1A, Delay’s Subdivision – Replat A, a subdivision in the City of Independence, Jackson County.
This ordinance would approve the transfer of this property to the National Park Service for the construction of a new Harry S Truman Historic Site Visitor Center and authorize the City Manager to execute for and on behalf of the City any and all documents necessary to effectuate transferring this City property to the National Park Service for the new Visitor Center.

Fiscal Impact:
Construction of a new Visitor Center will be another attraction that can be marketed as a destination which will complement the recently renovated Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum and will increase tourism visits to the City. There is limited fiscal impact to the City other than the value of the property.
