Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Axon Enterprise Inc (Axon), in the amount of $51,956.20, for Tasers for the Police Department.

The Police Department purchased 125 new Tasers (X26P) 4 years ago and 6 additional Tasers last year to replace current equipment that reached its end of lifetime span. The cost for all the Taser purchases is spread out over 5 years as part of the Axon Taser 60 Unlimited Plan the Department purchased. We currently have a payment due on the original 125 Tasers as well as the 6 additional Tasers as part of the payment plan. The cost is $49,375 for year 4 (of 5) on the 125 Tasers and $2,581.20 for year 5 (of 5) on the 6 additional Tasers. The two combined payments exceed the $50,000.00 criteria requiring Council approval.

The Axon Taser is the best-known and most successful Electronic Control Device (ECD) to date, and it is manufactured and distributed by Axon Enterprise/Taser International. The Department has adopted the Axon Taser as the Department standard for this equipment. The Police Department implemented the Taser into the equipment line well over 12 years ago and with the annual training requirements and liability of use it is essential that one standardized piece of equipment is used throughout the Police Department.

Approval of this item authorizes the Finance and Administration Director to issue change orders up to ten (10) percent of the original authorized amount, providing appropriations are available.

The fiscal impact to the City is $51,956.20. Funding for the tasers is included in the fiscal year 2022-23 adopted budget, page 179, account number E (4564-5313).
