The Police Department continues to participate in the public safety initiative sponsored by the Missouri's Highway Safety Division within MoDOT. In the past, the grant program has provided funding to conduct public safety programs which include: DWI Enforcement (Wolf Packs), Hazardous Moving Violation, Red Light Running, Youth Alcohol, Aggressive Driving on I-70 and Occupant Protection Enforcement.
In addition to that funding, the Police Department is applying for funding to expand the E-Ticketing Project. The project will increase the number of officers that will be able to utilize E-Ticketing. With E-Ticketing; officers can swipe/scan State Driver’s Licenses and electronically complete their citations. This drastically cuts down on the time spent issuing a citation or filling in repetitive information. Once the citations are completed, the information is directly uploaded to InCode. This direct upload will eliminate the need for duplicate entry by the officer and court clerk, along with the clerk reading all the handwritten citations.
The proactive enforcement and educational initiatives have demonstrated their effectiveness in reducing the violations and the serious consequences associated with this destructive behavior. The E-Ticketing equipment has reduced the amount of time that officers spend on a car stop and increase the efficiency of the Municipal Court Clerks time.
The average IPD Officer in enforcement issues, on average, 240 tickets per year. This takes approximately 40 hours per year of an officer’s time. E-ticketing is estimated to reduce the amount of time required by 400% to 8 hours. This frees up personnel for additional enforcement activities.
This year, the Police Department is submitting grant applications for all the programs listed above.
This request is for "Data Project – E-Ticketing" with a request of $65,152.00. The grant period will be from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023.
