Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to WesTech Engineering, for $159,477.00 for the refurbishment of a dual cage drive installed on Contact Basin No. 8 at the Courtney Bend Water Treatment Plant for the Water Department.

This request is for a purchase order to be issued to WesTech Engineering, LLC (“WesTech”) to provide for the services, material, and manufactured parts as necessary for refurbishment of WesTech DC42 dual cage drive installed on Contact Basin No. 8 at the Courtney Bend Water Treatment Plant. This WesTech drive assembly currently installed on Contact Basin No. 8 is in need of immediate repair and refurbishment to return the treatment basin to operation. WesTech is the original equipment manufacturer and suppliers of the drive assembly, and is the only available source for the refurbishment equipment and services required.

The Water Department operates the Courtney Bend Water Treatment Plant to supply the entire City of Independence and a significant portion of the Eastern Kansas City metro area with potable water. Contact Basin No. 8 is one of eight such structures at the facility, and its water treatment capacity, reliability, and serviceability is required to ensure the sustainable operation of the Courtney Bend Water Treatment Plant. Execution of this project is essential to the Water Department’s providing of an adequate supply of potable water. Delay of this work is not recommended.

Approval of this item authorizes the Finance and Administration Director to issue change orders up to ten (10) percent of the original authorized amount, providing appropriations are available.

The fiscal impact to the City is $159,477.00. Funding is included in the 2021/2022 adopted budget, page 220, project account E (402108-C--), account number E (7040-5406).
