Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec), in the amount of $254,888.00, for a bucket truck for the Power and Light Department.

Power and Light Transmission & Distribution department is seeking approval for purchase of a bucket truck. This bucket truck will be replacing a digger derrick that is due for replacement due to age. After discussing equipment needs it was determined that a bucket truck was much more needed than a digger derrick. We currently have 9 digger derricks and 7 bucket trucks. Past practice has always been to replace like for like, but our needs have changed and we require a bucket truck more than a digger derrick. In the past, lineman would physically climb poles to do their work. With more attachments on poles now with cable, fiber, etc, it is more difficult for the lineman to safely get past those attachments to get to our pole attachments.

The purchase order, if approved, will be issued against the Sourcewell Contract #012418-ALT Cooperative bid agreement. The cooperative purchasing provisions of paragraph 5 of the Independence City Code allows for the purchase of items competitively bid by other governmental entities.

Approval of this item authorizes the Finance Director to issue change orders up to a total of ten (10) percent of the original authorized amount, so long as appropriations are available.

The fiscal impact to the City is $254,888. Funding for the digger derrick is included in the fiscal year 2021-22 adopted budget, page 196, account number F (6123.5404.1851).
