The City of Independence has, since 2011, participated in the I-Share program. This is a need-based utility assistance program administered by the Community Service League. The program provides funding for those who are a utility account owner, whose income level does not exceed 150% of the federal poverty level (about $24,000 for a family size of two), and need assistance with payment of their utility bills. Eligible customers may only utilize the funding source one time per year. |

Fiscal Impact:
The fiscal impact to the City is $60,000. Funding for the program was included in the fiscal year 2022-23 adopted budget, from the Power and Light fund account number E (6520-5240-93010020-F).
