Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Graybar Electric Company Inc (Graybar), in the amount of $249,977.25, Desert Storm Switchgears for the Power & Light Department.

IPL staff recommends issuing a purchase order to Graybar.

The Power & Light Department is in need for direct replacement of switchgears that are already in service in the system. In an electric power system, switchgear are electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuit breakers used to control, protect and isolate electrical equipment. Switchgear is used both to de-energize equipment to allow work to be done and to clear faults downstream. Power & Light is in need of replacement switchgear which matches what is currently in place and has been in place for many years.

The supplier, Graybar, is recommended based on them being the previous supplier and also because they have a cooperative purchasing agreement through the Omnia Partners US Communities contract # EV2370. The cooperative purchasing provisions of paragraph 5 of the Independence City Code allows for the purchase of items and services competitively bid by other governmental entities.

Approval of this item authorizes issuance of change orders up to a total of ten (10) percent of the original authorized amount, so long as appropriations are available.

The fiscal impact to the City is $249,977.25. Funding for this equipment is included in the fiscal year 2022-23 adopted budget, page 198, project string E (202205 -C - - ) Desert Storm Switchgear Cabinets, account number E (7020-5406) Other Improvements.
