Agenda Title:

23-037 - 1R.  An ordinance submitting to the registered qualified voters of the City of Independence an ordinance proposing a repeal of Independence City Code of Ordinances Section 3.03.006 “Keeping of Pit Bulls Prohibited” and a review of Independence City Code of Ordinances Sections 3.03.007 “Aggressive Dogs,” 3.03.008 “Dangerous Dogs,” and 3.03.009 “Vicious Dogs,” to assure protections for the citizens from any dangerous animals.
Executive Summary:

The City Clerk was notified on May 4, 2023 the required number of signatures to place this matter on the ballot had been validated by the Jackson County Election Board. Notice must be provided in the form of a certified ordinance to the Board of Election by May 30, 2023 to call an August Special Election. In order to make that deadline, the City Council will need to hold a Special Called Meeting on May 22 for a second reading.

 

Approval of this ordinance would call a Special Election on August 8, 2023 and authorize the Board of Election Commissioners to conduct the election. 



Fiscal Impact:

Funding for the special election would need to come from Unrestricted Fund Balance.
