Agenda Title:

Acceptance of donated vehicle from Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).
Recommendations:

The Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department respectfully recommends acceptance of a freezer van.
Executive Summary:

The Aging and Adult Services Program at the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) coordinate home-delivery of frozen meals to eligible individuals in the Greater Kansas City area, including the City of Independence, Missouri.  MARC administers a number of grants that provide vehicles and equipment to local agencies for this purpose.
Background:

The Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department operates the Palmer Center to serve the needs of the senior and disabled population of Independence. The Palmer Center provides home delivery of frozen meals to eligible clients.

 

MARC is donating a 2022 Mercedes Benz Sprinter High Roof Van with Freezer that was purchased through Older American Act grant funds.  MARC will transfer ownership to the City in exchange for the City to maintain and insure the van for a minimum of ten (10) years or until the fair market value of the van is zero, whichever comes first.



Fiscal Impact:

The cost savings to the City is $47,767.50 for the Van and $22,692.00 for the Van Liner and Freezer Unit equaling a total savings of $70,459.50.
