Approval of this item will approve a design contract with and issue a purchase order to Alfred Benesch & Company in the amount of $162,500 in order to address the failing bridge located at 27101 E. Heidelberger Road. This bridge is currently closed to all traffic. |
| | | | | | | | Background:
This structure was built in 1940. The deck, substructure, and superstructure are in poor condition. The existing rock masonry abutments have loose and missing stone, and the wood deck and beams have severe damage. The bridge has had many asphalt overlays and the weight has impacted the integrity of the structure .The wooden beams are bowing and starting to crack in some locations.
The bridge was closed on March 31, 2023, and the detour length is 3 miles.
Staff worked with Benesch & Company on the initial assessment of this bridge, and have obtained a scope and fee for the design of a new structure. A design contract with Benesch & Company is being recommended due to their expertise, familiarity with this project, and in order to complete this project in a reasonable frame of time. |

Fiscal Impact:
The fiscal impact to the City is $178,750. Funding for the Emergency Transportation Project (No. 112203) is included in the FY23 adopted budget, page number 176, Street Sales Tax Fund 011, account number 7011-5406.
