If approved, this ordinance would amend Chapter 1 Article 16, "Board of Ethics", of the Independence City Code. Specifically, this ordinance would enact new provisions relating to ethical conduct, managing conflicts of interest, ongoing training and education pertaining to ethical conduct and guidelines relating to the promotion of candidates for the Office of Mayor and City Council. |

On June 12th, 2023 the Mayor's Advisory Commission on Ethics Reform presented their final report regarding a new Code of Ethics to the City Council. While those recommendations remain under review, it is believed that the items addressed in this ordinance merit immediate attention. |

Fiscal Impact:
This ordinance would require citywide ethics training for all employees every four years, with elected officials receiving ethics training at the time of their election. The cost of providing such training is not known.
