Chapter 5 of the City Code currently regulates hotels and motels. The proposed code change seeks to amend Chapter 5 to add additional regulations for extended stay hotels. This ordinance would:
1. Limit the length of stay by a transient guest.
2. Extended stays by guests may be allowed in certain facilities which have certain facilities.
3. Require extended stay hotels to note such on their annual business license.
4. Outlines occupancy standards for extended stay hotels including reregistration and occupancy limits.
5. Allows the extended stay hotel to eject a person from the hotel under certain circumstances and to notify the appropriate local law enforcement authorities.
Staff believes the proposed amendment will better serve our community and help regulate extended stay hotels by encouraging hotel operators and law enforcement agencies to collaborate to ensure the public safety in and around hotels.
