Agenda Title:

Council action is requested to allow The City of Independence in partnership with the Independence Sustainability Commission to award individuals and businesses in our community that are taking sustainable measures that create a safe and beautiful community we can take pride in.
Background:

The Sustainability Commission developed this award over the course of several monthly meetings. The award proposal was approved unanimously during the June 1, 2023 meeting. The award proposal is in line with the commission’s resolution No. 6367. Part of the function of the Sustainability Commission is to develop and implement public recognition programs promoting individual and neighborhood level sustainability and beautification projects. In addition to advising the Council on sustainability practices and implementation of community wide strategies regarding waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable growth and development.
