The City of Independence receives Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HOME funding is granted to the City for the development of affordable housing, benefiting low to moderate-income households. The City’s Comprehensive Plan Imagine 2040, the City’s 2023-24 Action Plan, and the City-Wide Independence Housing Study helped identify the City’s housing needs and long-range planning goals. As a result, HOME-funding strategies will help ensure quality affordable housing development throughout Independence.
To facilitate this process, the City requested proposals that aligned with our housing development objectives delineated by the City’s Five Year Consolidated Plan. Housing objectives include housing preservation that will rehab existing housing stock and develop newly affordable for-sale housing units. Applicants that wish to submit a proposal are required comply with the HOME Investment Partnerships Program regulations.
With the 2023-24 HOME program funds OKIOS Development Corporation plans to acquire, rehabilitate and resale of up to three to five, identified vacant and foreclosed, single-family residential properties, for new homeownership opportunities for households between 50-80% AMI.
